Interpretive Hike
"Sanctuary of Nature Cañi"
Visiting the Cañi Sanctuary, 21 kilometers outside of Pucón, is much more than simply hiking. This trip offers profound contact with an ancient Chilean forest. This may well enable you to expand your awareness wide enough to begin to sense the mysterious echoes coming down from past millennia. To experience the forest and its rhythms means living the true meaning of deep ecology, as you become immersed in its beauty and placing yourself within the time and space of Mother Earth. Your private tour leaves between 9 and 11 AM from Pucón, and returns between 5 and 7 PM. An experienced local guide accompanies you all day, offering information about flora, fauna, and local lore. Along the way, you will see many aspects of local life and culture, as well as marked changes in terrain and in the kinds and patterns of forest cover. You will note rich bird life and a climax forest, including the ancient araucaria trees, which can live up to 2,000 years. You will walk past old volcanic crater lakes and enjoy a 360-degree panorama of four volcanoes and, with a little luck, the majestic condor and woodpeckers at the summit. Remember that you need to be in good physical condition to cover the 1,200 meters of elevation in one day. In winter, this excursion is done with snowshoes, because the trail is under snow. |
